Make a Campaign Book Slide
April 20, 27 and May 4th
- Designation: 3-Night Course.
- Time: Monday evening from 6 pm to 9 pm
- Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate.
- Materials: Included.
- Pre-Requisite: Anyone who's taken one of our Intro or Bootcamp classes will enjoy this project.
In this class, you will make a campaign book slide based on a 19th century original. The two decorated ends slide along the base to adjust to the number of books on the shelf. The ends also twist 90 degrees to be removed for ease of transport.
This 3-night class is designed to improve your hand tool skills while working on a fun, useful project. Starting with a single board of hardwood, you will learn how to lay out parts, in what order and with which saws to make the various cuts. You will use a drill, a coping saw and a chisel to remove the cut out sections in the base, before shaping the ends with saw and rasps. Finally, you will clean up all the surfaces with a cabinet scraper, apply a finish, and assemble the completed book slide.
**All students at UW must be 18 years and older to attend.
**Classes are non-refundable 48 hours prior to class.
