The Six-board Chest is a classic piece of furniture. Using basic hand tool skills you will bring this project together with a few pine boards, a handful of nails and 2 forged strap hinges to attach the lid.
Over the 4-nights we will demonstrate how to use the necessary tools as well as the traditional methods for layout and measuring. You will learn to cut and shape an ogee pattern (shown on the front feet of the six-board chest), create curved profiles, install a traditional strap hinge within a mortise, and apply a traditional oil finish. For the more experienced woodworkers, there is plenty of opportunities to challenge your skills by adding mouldings to the outside of the chest or profiles to the lid.
**All students at UW must be 18 years and older to attend.
